The All-New Kia Seltos Hybrid: Five Changes Current Kia Owners Will Notice

If you already own a Kia Seltos, Cerato or Sportage, the all-new Kia Seltos Hybrid could feel like a bigger step forward than you might expect.

Coming to Australia in late 2026, the new-generation Seltos will introduce hybrid power, Kia’s Australian ride-and-handling tuning, Kia Connect with over-the-air updates and remote functions, available reclining second-row seats and completely new styling inside and out.

So, what does all of that actually mean when you’re living with the car every day?

Here are five changes current Kia owners are likely to notice most...

    1. You’ll be able to go hybrid without changing how you refuel

This is probably the biggest difference for current Seltos owners: hybrid power is coming to the Australian Seltos range.

And if you’re thinking, “Does that mean I need a charger at home?”, the answer is no.

    SELTOS HYBRID EXPLAINED

Do I need to plug it in?

If you're thinking about making the move from petrol to hybrid, there's one question you might be asking first.

    ✓
    THE SHORT ANSWER

    No routine plug-in charging required.

The all-new Seltos Hybrid uses a petrol-electric hybrid system. So rather than plugging the vehicle into a charger as part of your normal routine, you can continue to refuel with petrol.

    1
    Fill up with petrol

Refuel much like you would with your current Kia.

    2
    Petrol + electric

The hybrid system combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and traction battery.

    3
Energy is recovered as you drive

Regenerative braking can recover energy that helps support the hybrid battery.

What this means for current Kia owners

You can experience electrified driving without making routine plug-in charging part of your day.

A conventional hybrid combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and a small traction battery. Rather than plugging it into a charger, the vehicle uses its petrol engine and regenerative braking to help replenish the battery as you drive.

In other words, you can still pull into a petrol station, fill up and continue on your way.

On the road, the hybrid system can use electrical assistance alongside the petrol engine and may allow quieter electric operation at lower speeds under certain conditions.

For someone upgrading from a petrol Seltos or Cerato, that makes the transition to electrified driving much easier to understand. You don't necessarily have to change where you park, install a home charger or plan journeys around charging stops.

It could make particular sense for the type of driving many Brisbane owners do every week, with a mixture of school runs, stop-start traffic, suburban roads and motorway kilometres.

What we don't know yet: Kia Australia hasn't confirmed the Australian Seltos Hybrid's final power output or official fuel-consumption figures. For now, we'd be cautious of quoting figures from overseas models as though they'll apply here.

    2. It's being tuned specifically for Australian roads

A new platform and powertrain are one thing, but how will the new Seltos actually feel to drive?

Kia Australia has confirmed that its Australian ride-and-handling program has been applied to the all-new Seltos.

That's an important detail for existing Kia owners because local tuning isn't simply about producing a different specification on paper. The program can involve areas such as suspension, steering and chassis calibration with Australia's urban roads, highways and country roads in mind.

Think about your typical week in South East Queensland.

One minute you're negotiating suburban speed humps and roundabouts, the next you're joining the Logan Motorway or Pacific Motorway, and on the weekend you might be heading onto rougher regional roads.

That's the sort of varied Australian driving environment the local tuning program is designed around.

We won't call the new Seltos softer, sportier or better-handling until we've driven the Australian-specification vehicle ourselves. But if you're coming from a current Kia, knowing the new generation has gone through Kia Australia's local tuning program is certainly worth noting.

    3. Your Seltos will become much more connected

If your current Kia predates some of the brand's latest connected technology, this could be one of the differences you notice every day.

Kia Australia has confirmed Kia Connect, over-the-air updates and remote-control functions for the all-new Seltos.

That means the ownership experience isn't limited to what happens when you're sitting behind the wheel.

Compatible Kia Connect functions can provide access to vehicle information and remote functionality. Meanwhile, over-the-air, or OTA, technology allows compatible vehicle software to receive updates without every software change necessarily requiring a workshop visit.

For current owners, that's probably the easiest way to think about the change: your Seltos becomes more connected to your digital life.

Rather than technology simply meaning a bigger screen or another menu to scroll through, connectivity can become something you interact with as part of owning the vehicle.

    4. Rear-seat passengers get a genuinely useful upgrade

Here's a new feature that might not sound particularly exciting until you've got children or passengers in the back for a long drive.

Reclining second-row seats will be available in the all-new Seltos.

Rather than giving rear passengers one fixed seating position, the available reclining function adds another level of flexibility to the second row.

That's something you could appreciate during the school run, a drive down the Gold Coast or a longer family road trip.

Kia has also specifically noted that reclining the seat when using an appropriate forward-facing child seat may help reduce head-flop when a child falls asleep. This shouldn't be interpreted as a broader child-restraint safety claim, and any child restraint should always be installed and used according to its instructions and Australian requirements.

If you currently own a Seltos, it's a good example of how this new generation is changing beyond what's happening under the bonnet.

It's not just about adding hybrid technology. Kia is also looking at how families actually use the second row.

    5. It'll actually feel like you're stepping into a new generation

Finally, we have the change you'll notice before you even start the engine.

This is an all-new Seltos, not simply an updated version of the existing SUV. Kia describes the new model as having a newly sculpted exterior and interior.

That's particularly important if you're already driving a current Seltos.

When the time comes to upgrade, you want the new vehicle to actually feel new. A complete generational change gives Kia the opportunity to rethink the exterior, cabin and overall ownership experience rather than simply making minor changes to a familiar design.

You can expect the Seltos to look noticeably different, but we're deliberately not going to get too carried away with the specification list just yet.

That's because Kia Australia hasn't confirmed final local wheel designs, screen specifications, seating finishes, dimensions or grade-by-grade equipment.

The vehicle shown in Kia Australia's current preview is also an overseas model, so some of the finer details you see today could differ from what ultimately arrives in Motorama Kia showrooms.

    CURRENT SELTOS OWNER

This should feel like a genuine generation change.

If you're coming from the current Seltos, the biggest difference is that this isn't simply another update. The all-new Seltos brings hybrid power to Australia, a completely new design, Kia Connect technology and available reclining second-row seats.

    01 Hybrid power
    02 New-generation design
    03 Connected technology
Australian specifications and grade availability are still to be confirmed.

If you're already part of the Kia family and thinking about your next car, we'd say the all-new Seltos Hybrid is certainly one to keep on your radar.

Hybrid power might grab the headline, but it's the combination of petrol-electric driving without routine plug-in charging, Australian ride-and-handling tuning, connected technology, more flexible rear seating and an entirely new-generation design that could make the bigger difference in day-to-day ownership.

And with the Australian launch coming in late 2026, we should learn much more about pricing, grades and local specifications as the launch gets closer.
